Group and Centre Activities in South East Melbourne

Doing everything one-to-one can be lonely, and staying home can be lonelier. A well-run group gives you people to practise skills with, a reason to leave the house, and a rhythm to the week. Group and centre-based activities are NDIS supports where you take part with others, in a centre or in the community.

Melbourne Care Ability supports participants across South East Melbourne to take part in group activities, within program availability and your plan. Groups are built around skills, social connection, and activities people actually want to attend. You can visit the idea first. You do not have to sign up for a program that does not suit you.

What are group and centre activities, and why you need them

Group and centre-based activities support you to take part in activities with other people, either at a centre or as a group in the community. The aims are skill building, social connection, and meaningful time, matched to the group’s purpose.

You may want this support if one-to-one community access is not the kind of company you are looking for, or if you learn better alongside peers. A group also gives families a reliable block of time that is about participation, not only personal care.

It is different from individual community participation, where a worker supports you alone at activities you choose, and from innovative participation, where the design is custom because standard groups do not fit. We will help you pick the support that matches how you want to spend the time.

Our group and centre activities process

  1. 1

Step 1: Find the right group

We ask about interests, access, behaviour support needs, culture, and whether a centre or a community group suits you.

  2. 2

Step 2: Try before you commit

Where a place is available, we arrange a chance to see the group rather than enrolling you unseen.

  3. 3

Step 3: Agree days and goals

The service agreement sets the days, the support level, and what you want from attending.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Review the fit

If the group is not right, we talk about another group, a different support, or a break.

Benefits of choosing us for group activities

  • People, not just a room

Groups are there for participation and skills, not to fill seats.

  • A trial, not a trap

You can decide the group is wrong for you.

  • Local programs

Activities are aimed at South East Melbourne participants.

  • Clear boundaries

Personal care and transport are not quietly absorbed into a group fee unless they are funded and agreed.

Frequently asked questions

How many people are in a group?

Group size depends on the activity and the support needs in the room. We will tell you the expected size before you join. We do not place someone in a group that cannot support them safely.

Can I get personal care during a group day?

Personal care must be funded and rostered. A group activity does not automatically include showering, mealtime assistance, or other personal care. Tell us what you need during the session so we can see if it can be covered.

What if I do not get along with the group?

Tell us. We can look at another activity, a different day, or individual community participation instead. Staying in a group that distresses you is not a requirement.

Do I need my own transport?

Travel to the group is a separate question. Some participants arrange their own way there. Others use travel and transport support if it is in the plan. We will not assume a worker can drive you unless that is agreed.

Are centre activities available in my suburb?

Programs depend on demand, venues, and worker availability across South East Melbourne. Ask about Casey, Dandenong, Frankston, Monash, Kingston, and the Mornington Peninsula. If we do not have a group near you, we will say so.

See whether a group is the right fit

Tell us your interests, the days you are free, and the support you need in a group. We will tell you what is available and whether group or centre activities belong in your plan.

Call 0494 607 196. Services depend on your plan, funding, worker availability, and a signed service agreement.
