NDIS Travel and Transport Support in South East Melbourne

An appointment is only useful if you can get there. Public transport, a busy road, or a new suburb can make a short trip feel impossible, and missing it can mean missing health care, work, or a program you value. Travel and transport support helps NDIS participants make those journeys with the right assistance.

Melbourne Care Ability arranges travel support across South East Melbourne so you can reach appointments, programs, and community activities. We plan the trip around your access needs, the time of day, and whether you want to build skills to travel more independently later. This support depends on your plan, worker availability, and a service agreement.

What is NDIS travel and transport support, and why you need it

Assistance with travel and transport helps you travel to and from supports, appointments, and community activities when you cannot make the trip alone. A worker may travel with you, help you use public transport, or support the practical parts of the journey.

People need this support when distance, anxiety, mobility, or lack of a companion stops them taking part in the rest of their life. Transport is not a separate luxury. It is often the thing that makes other supports possible.

It is not a taxi company and it does not replace funded transport that sits elsewhere in a plan. We explain what this support can and cannot pay for before you rely on it. If a trip does not fit, we say so.

Our travel and transport support process

  1. 1

Step 1: Map the trips that matter

We list the places you need to reach, how often, and what makes travel hard.

  2. 2

    Step 2: Plan the journey

We look at mobility, public transport, pick-up points, and whether a worker should ride with you or meet you there.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Agree the arrangement

The service agreement sets which trips are included. Extra trips are not assumed.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Travel, then review

We review whether the trips are working and whether you want to practise any part of the journey yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Does NDIS travel support pay for every trip I want to take?

No. Assistance with travel and transport is for agreed trips connected to your supports and community access, as set out in your plan and service agreement. Social trips, errands, or extra destinations need to be checked first. We will not promise a ride that the plan does not cover.

Can a worker come on public transport with me?

Yes, when that is the right way to make the trip and you agree. Some participants want company on a train or bus. Others need a door-to-door arrangement. We plan that with you.

Can you take me to medical appointments?

We can support travel to agreed appointments when this support is funded for that purpose. We are not an emergency ambulance. For an emergency, call 000.

What if my appointment time changes?

Tell us as soon as you know. We will try to adjust the worker. Same-day changes depend on who is available, so we cannot guarantee every change.

Which areas do you cover?

South East Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, including Casey, Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Monash, Kingston, and the Mornington Peninsula. Ask us if you need to travel between these areas or slightly outside them.
